Where do submucosal myomas protrude?

Submucosal myomas, also known as submucosal fibroids, are a type of benign uterine tumor that specifically develop within the myometrium (the muscular layer of the uterus) and project into the uterine cavity. Their location is critical in assessing symptoms and treatment options, as they can impact menstrual bleeding, fertility, and cause other uterine-related symptoms.

In contrast, myomas that protrude into the abdominal cavity would be classified as intramural or subserosal, while those that develop within or surrounding the ovaries would be associated with ovarian pathology. Myomas that might extend through the cervix are not categorized as submucosal.
